Learn the Answers to 9 Questions and Answers Most Often Asked About the Windshield Repair Business.

QUESTION 1: I am very concerned about Windshield Repair Insurance Billing. I'm really concerned about a 3rd party billing my invoices for me and taking about $15.00 of my hard earned money for it.

ANSWER: I SUGGEST YOU DON'T PAY ANY THIRD PARTY FOR PROCESSING (UNLESS YOU WANT TO) THE "NETWORKS" AND SOME INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL INSIST THAT THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL RECEIVE PAYMENT, HOGWASH!

THEY CANT FORCE YOU TO USE THEIR "NETWORKS"........ ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT THEY CANT "FORCE" YOU, I JUST SAY, "I KNOW YOU HAVE THE NETWORKS SET UP FOR BILLING, BUT WE CHOOSE NOT TO USE THEM, CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE I SHOULD SENT THIS INVOICE".

ACCORDING TO THE FAIR TRADE LAWS, THEY CAN'T FORCE YOU TO USE THEM. I NEVER USE THEM; I THINK IT IS A CROCK. THEY ALWAYS TRY TO GIVE ME CRAP, BUT DONT LET THEM, THEY ALLWAYS TAKE AN INVOICE THROUGH THE MAIL. ALWAYS.

IT TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO FILL IT OUT AND SEND IT. I CAN'T SEE HOW IT IS WORTH GIVING UP THAT MUCH TO SOME ONE ELSE.........

PLUS THE WHOLE TURN AROUND TIME IS QUICKER IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF, USUALLY GET PAID WITHIN 2 WEEKS.

QUESTION 2: If the customer has full coverage, their insurance card has a claims department phone number. When I call them, I give them the breakage repair info, and my Fed. tax number. And they will give me a claim or authorization number?

ANSWER: YES, THERE IS A PLACE FOR THAT ON THE INVOICE. THERE IS A COPY OF THE INVOICE I USE ON PAGE 89 OF THE BOOK, "In the Chips-The Complete Guide to Windshield Repair Marketing". (YOU CAN GET A COPY OF THE BOOK AT: www.windshield-repair-business.com

IT IS A GENERIC COPY YOU CAN COPY OR TAKE TO A LOCAL PRINT SHOP LIKE KINKOS AND HAVE REPRODUCED.

QUESTION 3: Will it be that simple? Or do I need to contact all insurance companies and set up an account before hand?

ANSWER: IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE. NO NEED TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT, JUST CALL AND ASK, "WHERE SHOULD I SEND THIS INVOICE FOR PAYMENT?"

QUESTION 4: And is there a list I can obtain somewhere? Or do I start building my own list as I go?

ANSWER: EACH INSURANCE COMPANY MAY BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT, DEPENDING ON YOUR LOCAL AREA, YOU WILL GET ADDRESSES AND BUILD A LIST AS NEEDED, AS YOU DO EACH REPAIR, YOU WILL FIND TO THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL USE THE SAME COMPANIES.

QUESTION 5: Since I'm just starting out, can I expect that sending the insurance company an invoice in the mail is what I need to do?, what can I expect a reasonable turn around time for payment?

ANSWER: YES, I SEND THE INVOICE DIRECTLY TO THE CLAIMS DEPARTMENT OR THE AGENT, WHICHEVER THEY REQUEST. AND I USUALL GET A CHECK IN 10-30 DAYS, MOSTLY AROUND 2 WEEKS.

QUESTION 6: Do most insurance companies accept faxed invoices? Or do I take the time and money to set up a software program like quick books, where I'm assuming that I can bill them electronically?

ANSWER: SOME DO, MOSTLY THEY WANT A HARD COPY OF THE ORIGINAL THROUGH THE MAIL, BUT A FAX ALWAYS MAKES IT QUICKER. AS FAR AS SENDING ELECTRONICALLY, IT DEPENDS IF THEY ARE SET UP FOR THAT, MOST AREN'T UNLESS YOU GO THROUGH THE NETWORKS.......WHICH I DONT RECOMMEND.

QUESTION 7: I was told by a professional that I always need to have the customer call the insurance company and get approval before doing the repair, but sometimes I do them on the weekend or after hours and it isn't always possible to reach the agent or claims department....what should I do then?

ANSWER: HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! WE HAVE A LETTER WE SEND THE AGENT/INSURANCE COMPANY THAT BASICALLY SAYS,

"WE TRIED TO CONTACT YOU REGARDING THE REPAIR ON YOUR CUSTOMER'S WINDSHIELD BUT BECAUSE OF THE WEEKEND OR HOLIDAY (OR AFTER HOURS) WE WERE UNABLE TO CALL. PLEASE PROCESS THE ENCLOSED INVOICE IMMEDIATELY. CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS"

THERE IS A SAMPLE COPY OF EXACT LETTER WE USE ON PAGE 86 OF THE BOOK, "In the Chips-The Complete Guide to Windshield Repair Marketing". (YOU CAN GET A COPY OF THE BOOK AT: www.windshield-repair-business.com

QUESTION 7: I am a father of six that works 60-70 hrs a week Mon - Fri. moving heavy machinery and trucking. I am not obligated to weekends so, the business model of windshield repair is a good fit as I have worked the weekends with a friend who owns a glass fix business.

The potential is obvious to me and even more so after reading your book. I have an opportunity to buy a franchise or work for him. I like to be educated before any purchase and was wondering why some one would buy a franchise or just buy equipment and begin by themselves?

My question to you is, do you offer any sort of consulting to a young man like myself who is willing to work the business but wants to make the right choice on franchise, equipment, billing, etc...?

ANSWER: YOU COULD BUY A FRANCHISE OR GO ON YOUR OWN. BUT HERE'S MY OPINION........... I WOULD NEVER BUY A FRANCHISE. WHY?

WHY WOULD I PAY SOMEONE ELSE A PORTION OF MY INCOME, WHEN THERE IS SO MUCH GOOD TRAINING OUT THERE FOR HOW TO DO A REPAIR AND I KNOW HOW TO GET THE BUSINESS?

UNLESS THEY WERE GOING TO SOMEHOW GIVE ME BUSINESS (HIGHLY UNLIKELY) I WOULDN'T DO IT. BESIDES, THEY MAY SAY, "OH BUT YOU WILL BE TRAINED ON OUR SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR PROCESS AND THE INSURANCE COMPANIES AND CUSTOMERS WILL FLOCK TO YOU OVER A "NO NAME" GUY!

"THAT'S BS. IT HAS NEVER MADE A DIFFERENCE EVER.
SO IT'S CHEAPER TO GO ON YOUR OWN (CEPT YOU HAVE ME NOW AND YOUR BOOK) SO HERE IS WHAT I WOULD DO:

GO GET SOME GOOD EQUIPMENT, LEARN HOW TO USE IT.(DONT SPEND OVER 500 BUCKS*) (WATCH THEIR VIDEO AND PRACTICE ON AN OLD WINDSHIELD THAT ANY LOCAL GLASS COMPANY WILL GIVE YOU.

THEN USE THE TECHNIQUES IN MY BOOK, AND NEVER LOOK BACK! THE BILLING IS EASY TOO. WHEY YOU GET TO THAT POINT, LET ME KNOW AND I'LL SHOW YOU SOME REAL EASY WAYS TO DO IT. (COPY MY INVOICES FROM THE BOOK - THEY ARE INSURANCE COMPANY FRIENDLY)

*(don't get caught up buying just the "right" or "name brand" equipment, while it is important to buy good equipment, doing a quality repair is the most important thing - and you can do that with equipment packages that cost less than $500!) see answer I listed below (down a few) for links to the equipment I recommend.

QUESTION 8: I live in Washington State, where I live right now winter time has lot of rain; I have to make money during the winter time too. So will that stop me from doing rock chip repair?

ANSWER: I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN WASHINGTON TRAINING OTHERS TO DO WINDSHIELD REPAIR.........I LOVE IT UP THERE. HIGH CONCENTRATION OF REPAIRS, MY CLIENTS FROM UP THERE ARE MAKING TONS!

AS FAR AS THE RAIN GOES, YES YOU CAN DO THEM!
YOU WILL NEED TO GET OUT OF THE DIRECT RAIN.............USE AN UMBRELLA OR SOMETHING.

THEN YOU WILL NEED TO DRY OUT THE REPAIR. I USE A LITTLE RUBBING ALCOHOL ON THE REPAIR AND SOMETIMES A HAIR DRYER (GET A 12 VOLT DRYER THAT PLUGS INTO THE CIGARETTER LIGHTER - YOU CAN GET THESE CHEAP AT A LOCAL RV - MOTORHOME SUPPLY STORE)

AND REMEMBER IF THE REPAIR NEEDS TO BE DRILLED, ONLY DRILL IT AFTER YOU HAVE DRIED IT OFF.
WASHINGTON IS ONE OF THE TOP 10 SPOTS IN THE US..........YOU WILL DO GREAT. AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T DO PROFESSIONAL REPAIRS IN THE RAIN!............I'VE DONE TONS!

QUESTION 9: Hi I just bought, In the Chips Marketing book from you, ("In the Chips-The Complete Guide to Windshield Repair Marketing". - YOU CAN GET A COPY OF THE BOOK AT: www.windshield-repair-business.com

I have also been thinking which repair kit to buy, do you offer any windshield repair kit and kit to fix 18 inch crack? There so many I don't know which company to go with, I notice there not lot of company that do 18 crack repair?

ANSWER: AS FAR AS EQUIPMENT GOES, I DESIGNED A TOOL I HAVE USED FOR YEARS (USED TO SELL THEM ALL OVER THE WORLD UNDER "SUPERGLASS" BACK IN THE NINETIES........BUT THE CLOSEST ONES TO WHAT I USE IS AT THE FOLLOWING WEBSITES:

http://www.windshielddoctor.com/equipment.htm> OR TRY,

http://www.rockchipkits.com

THE BASIC KIT IS ALL YOU NEED
I DONT KNOW THESE GUYS, BUT AFTER LOOKING AROUND, IF I HAD TO BUY ONE, THIS IS THE ONE I WOULD BUY.............(remember get the BASIC kit only and don't spend over $500 max).

MAYBE YOU COULD JUST BUY THE INJECTOR PIECE (IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE RESIN ETC (BUY YOUR RESIN FROM:

www.liquidresin.com

THEY HAVE (IN MY OPINION) THE BEST RESIN (GLASWELD USED TO HAVE GOOD RESIN, BUT IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE) STAY AWAY FROM THE REAL CHEAP RESIN, AS IT TENDS TO "YELLOW" OVER TIME AND YOU MAY END UP RE-DOING REPAIRS.

AS FAR AS CRACKS GO........I LEARNED EARLY ON THAT THEY WERE NOT WORTH THE TIME AND EFFORT (THAT'S FOR ME - SOME PEOPLE LOVE EM) I JUST THINK FOR THE TIME AND HASSLE, IT IS NOT WORTH IT. PLUS THE SUCCESS RATE OF MOST "CRACK SYSTEMS" IS NOT THAT GOOD.

I HAVE DONE A TON OF THEM, BUT IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME AND WHAT THEY ARE WORTH (AS FAR AS PAYMENT GOES), THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT. TAKE MY WORD ON IT. SPEND YOUR TIME ON THE REPAIRS.

REFER THE LONG 18 INCH CRACKS TO A REPLACEMENT SHOP FOR A REFERRAL FEE (THE REFERRAL FEE IDEA AND HOW TO SET IT UP WITH A LOCAL GLASS SHOP, FOR WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTS, IS COVERED IN THE BOOK STARTING ON PAGE 80 - ("In the Chips-The Complete Guide to Windshield Repair Marketing".
